Bombay

Arrivés à Bombay de bon matin, nous déposons nos bagages au "Carlton Hôtel", dans le quartier de Colaba.
Nous sommes à deux pas du célèbre Taj Mahal hôtel qui fait partie de l'empire Tata, l'homme d'affaires le plus célèbre du pays qui a fait fortune au début du 20e siècle. Pour la petite histoire, il paraît qu'un jour, monsieur Tata ayant besoin de descendre à l'hôtel à Bombay a demandé une chambre dans un établissement anglais. Mais les colons anglais n'avaient pas l'habitude de se mélanger et monsieur Tata n'était pas le bienvenu. Qu'à cela ne tienne ! Il décida alors de construire son hôtel et ainsi naquit le Taj Mahal...
Aujourd'hui encore, c'est toute l'élite indienne qui y descend ou vient y manger.

A deux pas (dans la rue de notre hôtel pour être précis), nous remarquons une équipe de télévision et avons la surprise de reconnaître Frédéric Mitterrand en reportage pour TV5.
Mais nous aussi allons connaître notre heure de gloire: on vient de nous proposer de participer au tournage d'un film de Bollywood pour lequel on a besoin d'occidentaux. L'expérience doit être amusante et la rémunération est tentante: 500 roupies par personne et par jour (soit 20 Euros à nous deux !)
On ne se fait pas prier pour accepter: un bus passera nous prendre demain matin avec d'autres figurants.

En attendant, nous nous promenons dans Bombay qui nous séduit. De nombreux bâtiments d'époque victorienne, parfois très imposants donnent à cette ville un air sérieux et rigoureux qui contraste avec les scènes de vie et l'animation chaotiques... Beaucoup des maisons de l'époque coloniale ne sont pas entretenues et apparaissent aujourd'hui recouvertes d'une mousse à la fois grise et verte et souvent la nature a repris son droit, offrant le spectacle étrange d'une maison habitée avec des arbres poussant dans les murs !
